I’ve been a full time housewife and mom for almost 2 1/2 years now, and while I’ve been pretty good to maintain a daily routine since Henry was about 7 months old, I have often found it difficult to work in consistent times for household chores as well. This often left me flying by the seat of my pants and rushing to clean things up when company was coming over. I constantly felt pulled in both directions. Some days I would clean a lot and feel guilty that H spent most of the day watching me clean and other days I would spend pretty much the entire day playing and entertaining Henry and then feel guilty that the house was a complete wreck.
So in an effort to bring a little balance back I created a daily schedule for us to follow as well as a weekly cleaning schedule. Hopefully this time I can make it stick. 😉
7:00 wake up
7:15 breakfast (I usually let H have up to an hour of tv time during breakfast. This allows me to make and eat my own breakfast, quickly clean up our dishes and get ready for the day.
8:30 walk Bonnie
9:00 – 10:00 outside play if weather is nice
10:00 inside to clean house or run errands if needed
This is also snack time for H. He loves to be outside, so offering his snack at this time helps him to transition from outside to in. 😉
11:00 continue cleaning if needed or inside play
11:30-11:45 lunch prep
12:00 lunch is served
(between lunch and rest time, I usually tidy up the living area and Henry’s room. AKA I pick up the mountain of toys that have found their way around the house.)
12:30 resting time begins ( We go read stories in H’s bed and then I lay down with him while he goes to sleep. He is usually asleep by 1:15 or so.)
2:30-3:00 H wakes up, I usually give him 30 minutes of tv time here if he wants. He can be a bit cranky when he wakes up from his nap and I find this helps him transition.
3:00 snack for H
3:00-4:00 inside play (usually play-doh, crayons or stamps)
4:00-5:00 outside play if weather is nice
5:00 inside for dinner prep
5:30 dinner for H
6:00 dinner for Kerry and I
7:00 bath time!
(Between bath and bed time, H usually is playing with his Dad and I tidy up the kitchen a little and pick up the living areas and Henry’s room a bit before bed.)
8:00 Bed time for H
